My newest passion...

Well I have to say I haven't been very motivated to blog for quite some time. What with work and life in general I just haven't been in the mood to sit down and write anything. But I have to share a new passion I have just recently discovered. I have been feeling particularly creative lately and have been experimenting with different textures and techniques.

Ever since I was a little girl I loved to knit and crochet. My grandmother taught me the basic stitches. She was so talented. She would sit and knit for hours and create beautiful tops for me and my sister. She was always fashion forward and many times I would go to school wearing one of her creations to find everyone admiring her work. To this day I wish I had kept a particular top she had made for me. It was white chenille with white pearls-something that would be so "in" today!

I haven't knitted since my kids were babies, which is quite some time ago. Nor have I crocheted for many years either. But while I was surfing the net a few weeks ago I came across some lovely jewellery pieces that were crocheted. While I have always known that knitting or crocheting with beads was possible, heck my grandmother taught me over 30 years ago...for some reason I forgot, or just didn't think of it! Meshing my passion for creating jewellery with my dormant passion for crocheting is so exciting. I quickly decided to use wire instead of cotton or wool (for now anyway) to see what I could do with it. Wow I love it! It is so satisfying to see the wire and beads twine together to form a bracelet.

Here's my first try:

Beaded Crystal Turquoise Crochet Cuff

This piece is one of my favourites and I am keeping it for myself. I'm not sure if it's the colour or if it's just the fact that it's my first try.

My daughter suggested a very thin bracelet, simple but colourful so I quickly found some turquoise shards and crocheted this one:

She loves it and wears it quite a lot.

I've just completed a crocheted lariat necklace-gold wire with gold tear drop crystals, round clear crystals and black irregular shaped crystals. I'll post next time.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating jewellery. That's probably why I love it so much!
